Abstract A method of treating and/or preventing alopecia (baldness, deficient hair growth) comprises administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically or prophylactically effective amount of a sulfated mono-, di- or oligosaccharide or a derivative, salt or complex thereof. The saccharide is preferably polysulfated, such as a polysulfated disaccharide, in particular sucrose, or a derivative, complex or salt thereof. Especially interesting polysulfated disaccharides are sucrose pentasulfate, sucrose hexasulfate, sucrose heptasulfate and sucrose octasulfate, e.g. in the form of a potassium or sodium salt, or in the form of sucralfate. 15 Claims, No Drawings content2 |
